Bicheno Oz Film Fest

The Bicheno Oz Filmfest is a celebration of Australian films – comedy, family, animation, horror and drama – something for everyone! From Oscar nominee, Memoir of A Snail, an animation for grown-ups by Adam Elliott – to the hilarious family hit film, Runt about a clever little dog that has delighted audiences across Australia, it’s Bicheno’s chance to see the best, the funniest, the scariest and the most thought-provoking recent Oz films on the big screen.
Programmed by filmmaker Sue Maslin (are ) who is based in Bicheno, the season will be a combination of night-time and matinee screenings, details are below:

All proceeds from the screening of Blueback on Saturday (Mar 15) will go to the Bicheno Landcare group to help them continue their amazing work protecting our foreshore environment and beyond.

Craig Silvey’s beloved best-selling novel leaps onto the big screen in a charming new Australian family movie. RUNT is the heartfelt and hilarious tale of eleven-year-old Annie Shearer and her best friend Runt, an adopted stray dog with remarkable abilities. In a bid to save their family farm, the two aspire to compete in the Agility Course Championships at the prestigious Krumpets Dog Show in London, whilst overcoming hurdles, obstacles, and nefarious villains.

Grace Pudel is a book-loving, snail-collecting misfit that falls into a series of misfortunes after being separated from her twin brother Gilbert. Despite her hardships, inspiration and hope arise when Grace begins a friendship with an eccentric elderly woman named Pinky. From Academy Award-winning writer and director Adam Elliot, Memoir of a Snail is a heartfelt and hilarious chronicle of the life of an outsider finding her confidence and silver linings amongst the clutter of everyday life.

Based on Bill Bennett’s best selling memoir of the same name, The Way, My Way has been described by Camino elder statesman Johnnie Walker as the most authentic film ever made about the Camino.

While marine biologist Abby Jackson is out on a boat researching the heart-breaking destruction of coral reefs, she’s called back home with the news that her mother has fallen ill. Abby begins reflecting on her childhood and the powerful influence her mother, Dora, had on her worldview. Through flashbacks, we meet teenage Abby, who is taking an increasing interest in protecting the bay where they live, driven by a bond she has formed with the wild blue groper who resides there.

After reading the iconic book by Alison Lester, nine children and a dog find themselves on the titular Magic Beach. They explore caves, build giant sandcastles, poke around rock pools and converse with sea creatures. This is where their animated imaginations begin… James dives with horses in the waves, sandcastles are built and destroyed in terrible wars, pirates smuggle treasure, and dreamtime serpents fly through the sky and shed their scales. The dreams of these children are limitless and reflect the uninhibited nature of being a child at the beach. The children awake from their animated imaginations to find themselves back in real life, but the beach will be in their hearts forever.

Johnny Carson rival Jack Delroy hosts a syndicated talk show ‘Night Owls’ that has long been a trusted companion to insomniacs around the country. However, ratings for the show have plummeted since the tragic death of Jack’s beloved wife. Desperate to turn his fortunes around, on October 31st, 1977, Jack plans a Halloween special like no other- unaware he is about to unleash evil into the living rooms of America.
