Meredith House And Mews
Meredith House and Mews at Swansea on Tasmania’s East Coast offers heritage bed and breakfast accommodation in a convict-built 1853 home with modern touches such as free Wi-Fi.
The six ensuite rooms in the convict-built Georgian-style National Trust-classified house are decorated in warm, period colours and furnished with antique and hand-crafted red cedar furniture.
There are views over the historic seaside village of Swansea, and Great Oyster Bay to the Freycinet Peninsula. A wide veranda provides cool shade and the house is surrounded by gardens, with barbecue facilities and a guest laundry.
Adjacent to the main house there are four self-contained mews-style studio apartments, three with spas.
The town itself is home to the East Coast Heritage Museum, which highlights the heritage of the region. There are several excellent restaurants and Cafes to showcase the produce of the area.
Within easy reach are the walks and wildlife of Freycinet National Park or Maria Island, the East Coast Natureworld, Bicheno’s popular Penguin tour, the cool-climate vineyards of the East Coast, a string of fine beaches and several golf courses.
Meredith House has been an accommodation establishment since 1901 and continues its fine tradition of hospitality.
