Discover St Helens

St Helens, on the doorstep of the iconic Bay of Fires, is surrounded by some of Tasmania’s most pristine coastal areas. Known for its incredible fishing and seafood, it’s a place where life revolves around the ocean.

Fishing, fun and fresh seafood?
It must be St Helens!

Named Tassie’s Top Tourism Town in 2020, St Helens is a favorite holiday spot for locals and visitors alike. Recently, it has gained international attention for its world-class mountain bike trails. Whether you’re into downhill thrills, cross-country flow, or family-friendly trails, there’s something for everyone. Don’t miss the chance to ride from mountains to the sea and finish your adventure at the breathtaking Bay of Fires.

The beaches, bays, and estuaries of St Helens are perfect for swimming, beach walks, sailing, snorkelling, and fishing. Bring your own boat, hire one, or join a fishing charter to chase marlin and tuna on the continental shelf. If you prefer a relaxed approach, drop a line from the jetty for local bream. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy fresh seafood such as oysters, scallops, abalone, rock lobster, and a variety of fish.

For a scenic adventure out of the water, take the one-hour return walk to Peron Dunes for some excellent sand dune fun. In town, explore shops, cafes, and galleries, or visit the History and Visitor Information Centre.

Easy Tiger in the heart of town features a boutique cinema, brewery, wine bar, beer garden and two restaurants. When you have finished your film, head to Serpentarium Wildlife Park to meet some reptilian friends. Next, take a short drive and visit The Shop in the Bush to hunt for antique treasures.

Food and wine lovers should check out Priory Ridge Estate, East Coast Village Providore, Lease 65 Oysters, or Parkside Bar and Kitchen. Furneaux Restaurant is a fine dining experience not to be missed along with breakfast at Sco & Co and The Lifebuoy Cafe.

When it’s time to unwind, you will find many cosy bed-and-breakfasts, hotels, resorts, holiday houses, and campgrounds. Try the award winning Big 4 St Helens, now with glamping safari tents or Bay of Fires Apartments in the main street.
