Wine. Dine. And Whisky

There’s no denying, some things are just better together – Romeo and Juliet, cinema and popcorn, rock and roll, shoes and socks… and there’s no exception at the 2021 Great Eastern Wine Week. Food and Wine [and whisky!] are also the perfect pair.

Here in Tassie we also like mixing things up. We take the best of Australia’s culinary elements and blend it with cuisines from around the world. The Great Eastern Wine Week presents to you some of the best food, wine and whisky experiences, using some of Tasmania’s freshest locally grown and sourced produce, matched perfectly of course with our local drops.

Here’s some of our hottest foodie tips for this year’s Great Eastern Wine Week:

 

For Dinner…

Tantalise your taste buds with any of these exquisite dinner events right along the East Coast during the 11 day festival.

Raise your glass and toast to the coast for an evening of the world’s best duo of food and wine at Wine and Dine with Devil’s Corner at the stunning Freycinet Lodge.

If modern Australian French cuisine is your taste, Wine Makers at Furneaux is a 7-course degustation dinner overlooking the gorgeous George’s Bay.

Revel in the ultimate dining experience right on the water’s edge with a backdrop of moored boats at The Wharf Bar & Kitchen Wine Dinner.

Drink your way along the East Coast with a 6-course degustation food and wine presentation dinner, matched perfectly with six East Coast Wines at See Life & Drink It. Keep a watch over the captivating Waubs Bay for Bicheno’s very own laser light show.

And Raida, St Helens’ newest Japanese restaurant,  has out done themselves, hosting four events during the festival – A Taste of Japan, A Japanese Fusion for the Senses, Japanese Crafty Night and Beer Tasting Bonus and A Fusion for the Soul.

 

For Lunch…

Looking for a day-time culinary delight? Lunch it up at any of the following events – there’s something to suit everyone’s taste buds.

The Freycinet Marine Farm Long Lunch brings the pristine tastes and stories of the unique seas of Tasmania to life. Be guided through a journey experiencing Tasmania’s best seasonal seafood produce, savouring the merroir (use this word to sound like a seafood expert) of our stunning East Coast and tasting the terroir of our East Coast wines.

Previously of The Quay Restaurant Sydney, Max Vloet will be creating a 3-course lunch of local produce matched with wonderful Craigie Knowe Wines.

Showcasing Tasmania’s finest flavours and produce is the Long Lunch at Bark Mill with a 5-course set menu matched with beautiful local wines.

Relax and enjoy an extended lunch at Milton Vineyard’s Wild Bounty and Woodfires with cool-climate wines and warm East Coast locally sourced food, with a roaring fire overlooking the vineyard.

Enjoy a spectacular Vineyard High Tea with Perfectly Matched Wines of 12 delicious pastry creations by renowned pastry chef Xinruo Wang. The pastries are specially designed to enhance both the wine and the pastry when paired together.

 

Be Whisky-ed Away…

We know this is a wine festival, but for those who enjoy a whisky or two, we’ve got you covered this year at two very special dedicated whisky events with local East Coast distillers.

Join the Vineyard Manager, Brewers and Distillers for an evening of indulgent Long Table dining with Grape N Grain at Ironhouse Vineyard Distillery and Cellar Door. Highlighted by estate grown wines and a yet to be released ‘limited edition’ single malt finished in Pinot Noir barrels. [and yes, they craft their own beers as well!]

Spring Bay Mill’s Whisky Master Class includes rare sold-out wine cask releases and a sneak preview of an upcoming whisky with a tasting straight from the barrel. Suzy and Cam Brett will take you through each whisky and the story of Spring Bay Distillery in this intimate afternoon event.

So, get your swirl on and get over to the East Coast for any number of events along the 221km stretch of stunning coastline. Stay for a night, a few days, or the whole week!
