The Great Eastern Wine Week is no ordinary wine and food festival with over 50 events showcasing the best the East Coast has to offer. There’s no other place in world quite like Tasmania’s East Coast with our world-class beaches, crystal clear blue waters, beautiful landscapes, abundant wildlife and rich history. Couple this with some extraordinary experiences while savouring our local award-winning wine and produce as fresh as it gets, The Great Eastern Wine Week festival is a must do this September.

Great Eastern Wine Walk. Maria Island

Embark on a 3-day adventure on the extraordinary Maria Island. The Great Eastern Wine Walk is a delightful blend of rare wildlife, fascinating history, island tranquillity and gourmet delights. Maria Island is a Noah’s Ark for rare animals and birds; some of which are found nowhere else. It’s the wombat capital of the world, with an abundance of the “fluffy boulders” roaming the island. It is also one of Australia’s UNESCO World Heritage listings with its intact convict settlement at Darlington. Explore the island by day, and warm up by the roaring fire with a glass of fine Tasmanian wine at night.

Wine and Dine with the Devils. East Coast Natureworld

The mysterious nature of the elusive Tasmanian Devil is debunked in this unforgettable experience with Wine and Dine with the Devils. Primarily nocturnal, Tassie Devils are truly remarkable creatures, as unique to the animal kingdom as Tasmania is to the mainland. Their late-night, ‘otherworldly’ howl heard by early European settlers, led to its common name. Play a game of “hide and seek” in a specially designed hide to experience how Tasmanian Devils behave in the wild. Relax and enjoy the show while you dine on a delicious tasting plate, matched with award-winning wines from Devil’s Corner – for a double Devil experience!

Cruise the crystal-clear waters of Freycinet National Park…

Great Eastern Wine Cruise. Wineglass Bay

There’s something magical about seeing the East Coast from the water and taking in the stunning granite coastline of Freycinet National Park that will stimulate your senses. Those dramatic pink peaks of the Hazards range, the secluded and hidden coves and the whitest of white sandy beaches that just can’t be fully experienced on dry land. Set sail and cruise through the pristine waters of Great Oyster Bay on the Great Eastern Wine Cruise and keep your eyes peeled for local wildlife whilst sampling some of the finest handcrafted wines from East Coast Tasmania.

Wild Abundance – Cooking with Game Workshop & Lunch. Twamley Farm

This is a cooking class like no other! Hosted at the historic Twamley Farm, experience cooking a range of game dishes at the Wild Abundance – Cooking with Game Workshop & Lunch on the 7,000 acre working farm on the Tea Tree Rivulet. After a hot toddy by the fire on arrival, the workshop includes learning to prepare and cook local game to perfection such as venison, pheasant and wallaby. To top off savouring the fruits of your cooking efforts, be swept away in a sensory sensation with a vertical wine tasting experience. Hot tip, everywhere here is Instagrammable!

Ceramic Tableware Workshop. The Farm Shed Tas

Add some creative flair to your East Coast wine tasting, with a handmade Ceramic Tableware Workshop at The Farm Shed. Learn how to make your own unique tableware items using handbuilding techniques such as pinch pots, coiling and slab rolling, using Buff Raku, a beautifully textured dark brown clay that lends itself to handbuilding. Be guided through the process of creating functional ceramic tableware while you enjoy a homemade grazing table and some amazing East Coast wines.
